Oddysee regular Asphalt DJ returns with a seamless, 72-minute blend of classy tech grooves and heady club sounds.

In the wake of his “Double O” release on Oddysee, we thought it a good idea to invite our friend and fav producer Asphalt DJ back for another contribution to the mix series. Skillfully building in momentum, he takes us on a tasteful tour of his recent finds and favourites. Expect 72 minutes of groovy, techno-leaning house cuts and sweaty head wobblers – seriously gooood stuff!

In addition, we had a little chat about an exciting upcoming label project that he’s working on with our homeboy Yòp. Dive in below for a glimpse of what’s to come.

Hii Doron, very glad to have you with us again! What has been on your mind recently and what have you been up to these last couple of months in Berlin?

Hey guys, thanks for having me again! Winter in Berlin isn’t the easiest, but I’ve been trying to stay sane and spend as many hours as possible in my studio which led me to finish a huge amount of tracks 🙂

I know you’ve been working on a new label project with your (and our) close friend Jop Woesthuis. Can you tell us a little about your friendship with Jop and what ignited the idea of starting a record label together?

Me and Jop first met when I visited Amsterdam towards the end of the Covid period when he hosted me on the radio show I did for RadioRadio back then. The connection felt instantly smooth and natural like we had already met in another time and from that moment we stayed in touch and gradually developed a real friendship.

I was cooking the idea of a label for quite some time and one day right after finishing a phone call with Jop it clicked that he’s the person I’d like to do it with. I trust his music taste, his vision and his approach in general so the next day I asked him if he’d feel like going on a journey of creating a label together. From that point we started developing it closely, working on the sound, the artwork and the meaning behind it and through that process “Sentiment” came to life.

I believe the first record will be supplied by yourself. What can you tell us about the first release and the tracks on there? And what can people expect from the label in the future in terms of music, artwork and vibe?

Yes, the first record will be produced by me. It presents the idea behind the label and our overall approach. For us, Sentiment sits as a bridge between techno and house focusing on steady tracks with no big buildups or crazy drops and giving the music time to breathe. Our focus will mostly be on club-related releases but we also want to experiment with music that isn’t necessarily meant for the club. We both connect to music that carries the heart and soul of early day machinery and we’re curious to explore what’s possible within that space creating, releasing and developing it together with artists we connect with.

The same goes for the visual side, we’re keeping it clean and simple with enough space to let the music speak. This first record reflects that balance between both worlds.

What can you tell us about this mix you’ve put together for us? How did you approach the mix, what kind of energy can we expect?

My mind goes to different places while DJing or working on a mix. I like to combine a few worlds and find the right context each time, and that’s also the approach in this mix from deep to raw house and dubby sounds, bringing together music from artists like Delano Smith, DJ Deep, Kerri Chandler, D’Julz and a small contribution from myself with some unreleased material.

What else might you be working on or looking forward to in the next few months?

“Sentiment”!! We׳re releasing the first record very soon and I can’t wait to share this one with the world.
