We’re thrilled to take the opportunity to amplify one of our favourite selectors from our community; Jaimy.

Starting out as a passionate record collector, Jaimy has crafted a fine taste for house, progressive house and techno from the early 00’s and late 90’s. A taste, as many that know him will tell you, is soaked in rhythm, bounce and sexy grooves. After staying busy in the Amsterdam scene as resident of De Omroep and making regular appearances at venues like Radio Radio and Claire, he’s been a vital part of our Oddysee fam for over a year now. Taking good care of our radio show on Echobox Radio, next to now being involved with the curation of our record label and mix series as well.

As we’re always pleasantly surprised by the contents of his record bag, we took note when he mentioned that he was working on an after hours inspired mix. His first mix in a while and one that perfectly orchestrates why we love him so much. We connected over the airwaves and touched on topics like his recent move to Thailand, formative music experiences and Oddysee works.

Hi Jaimy, I’m glad we could finally make this happen! What has been on your mind recently and where do we find you today?

Heyyy Joe, funnn interviewing me. I’m so happy we could finally make this happen as we’ve been trying to plan this for ages. <3 Today, I’m sitting at my favorite cafe in Thailand writing these answers. I recently moved there, escaping the cold winter in Amsterdam. It’s such a lovely place to recover and get things sorted, although I miss clubbing fomooo.

For people unfamiliar with you, can you tell us a little bit about yourself and your involvement as part of the Oddysee crew?

Been a big fan of Oddysee since day one! As you and me are good friends, at some point, I automatically got dragged into Oddysee. It started for real when the label was created. The idea of starting a label had been raging through my head for a while, and there were some plans, but when we talked about starting a label together, it felt like the right thing. Why not start a label together, and there it kinda went down. While working on the label, the opportunity of starting a residency show at Echobox Radio came towards us. From then on, I started hosting and programming the show for a few years, which was amazing. Meeting all guests of the show was something else; it was such a pleasure doing this and brought much energy. So yeah, at this stage, I got sucked into Oddysee deeper and deeper as I was inviting artists that inspired me to the mix series and BMC curations as well. Feeling super thankful to be part of this and looking forward to our future plans!!

Being close to you, I know you as someone who’s been deeply invested in music for over a decade. How did you get into music and how did things develop from those early encounters to the point where you’re at as a DJ today? And, what have been some of the most influential moments for you down that ride?

There’s so much going through my mind reading this question whaaa! It was love at first sight, touching down at these massive techno parties for the first time. From that moment, it felt like a voyage and it still does. So much to discover in music, so many treasured dancefloor moments, and so many beautiful individuals. It feels endless to me, which keeps me so excited. After some time of attending raves and parties, I went to Trouw for the first time, which showed me the light haha. My love of electronic music went beyond as I experienced all these new sounds and styles like Detroit house and late 90s techno. Those grooves got me, being there a full weekend feeling all these different energies during the day and night showed me another level. It got me so interested and passionate; at this time, I started collecting records, mostly Detroit, Chicago house, and techno. After a few years, I played my first gig (which went terribly, playing only Chicago house at a wedding is not a good idea). But things got better, starting as a resident at De Omroep and the former club Claire. This shaped me as a DJ and taught me so much.

What have been some of your most treasured club experiences till date, both as a guest and as a performer, plus the impact those moments had on you?

It’s difficult to pick one as there are sooo many. Something that I treasure a lot as a dancer are mornings in clubs (spoiler for the mix). That moment when only the hard-core of all dancers are left. This often feels like all is one, and everyone is on the same frequency. Beautiful! As a DJ, one that pops up is my first night in Claire. I was playing the mid-evening slot, the club was packed, and all my friends were there. I was so nervous that at some point, it made me hesitate if this was something for me haha. Started playing with shaky hands, but after a few records, everything fell into place as the energy and connection were so good. This was such an influential moment; when I’m nervous, I always think about this moment. It got me buzzed for months haha.

You recently moved from Amsterdam to Thailand. Can you tell us about this new adventure and the electronic music scene there?

Yeah, super excited for this move; I’m gonna live there for a little while! It always attracted me, and it feels like the right place to work on projects and focus. The scene here is small and cute, which I really admire. People are connected on a different way than I’m used to in Amsterdam. There are some fantastic artists and projects popping up; it’s inspiring! Playing my first gig in Bangkok on the 25th for the sweetesttt people of Summer Sound, super excited to be part of this!

What can you tell us about this mix you’ve put together for us? How did you approach the mix, what kind of energy can we expect?

Making a mix for me might be the hardest thing, as a perfectionist, it’s never good enough. I tortured myself with this for years, which ensured me not to bring out much. It’s an exciting and scary thing, but at this stage, it feels like the right thing. During the last months of De School, I experienced some inspiring morning moments which intended me to make this mix. Lots of late 90s/early 00s groovers. Never-ending grooves to sunshiny high-energy house when the first beams of light peek onto the dancefloor. And a little spoiler, there might be a new Oddysee release in this mix.

What are you looking forward to in the next few months?

Enjoying lotsss of sunshine and working on some sick things for Oddysee!
