Liquid Earth 640 429 Oddysee

Transatlantic phenomenon Taylor Freels, aka Liquid Earth, is back on Oddysee with a hand-picked selection of his Bandcamp favourites.

As a seasoned selector and producer Liquid Earth has been making steady moves in recent years, seamlessly blending the rhythmic sensibilities of London and Barcelona with the sun-soaked serenity of his native California. Part ’80s sleaze, part ’90s deepness, part ’00s wiggle, his productions are fast becoming singularly recognizable as he refashions vintage sounds for the clubs of tomorrow.

With the fourth release on his Squid Recordings on the way, this time a VA pushing four new acts each with their own distinctive vibe, we caught up and invited him to contribute to our Buy Music Club series.

Words and curation by Liquid Earth

V.A. – Ink Around And Find Out Vol.1 (Squid Recordings)
The next in my little label’s catalog, a various artist compilation from close friends and upcoming producers. From California to Barcelona and beyond, think Big punchy square waves and club friendly breaks.

Front Left – Balkan 176 (System Error)
Taken from a recent VA, from an even more recent favorite label of mine, System Error (Berlin).

Oward – Raised in The Fire Soul (Modern Function)
Skipped percussive work from the London based Modern Function Imprint, a nod to all things English.

Mike Ash – Robotik (Ozone Records)
Sheffield, an industrial powerhouse and home to Ozone Records and their insane catalog of releases. Lucky for us, the entire series from 1989 to 1995 now sit on Bandcamp.

FC Europa – The Score (General Electrik Remix) (Groovescooter Records)
Launched at Club Kooky in Sydney, the Groovescooter label’s debut compilation from 1999 sits just perfectly in my rotation of gigs. More vocals = more fun.

Body Mecanic Vs Janet Jackson – Yo Girlfriend Janet (Bruno’s Mashup) (No Label)
Bruno’s killer mashups need no real introduction, especially so if you know the brain behind them. Delicate and abrasive, unexpected and chaotic… just like the man himself.

Patrice Bäumel – Mutant Pop (Trapez)
Absolutely timeless German minimal. Revisiting this label gives me unmeasurable joy.

Yung Pradito – Me Sienta Bien
I keep ending sets with this one and it does not disappoint. That “Spanish Drexciya tune” a punter once asked an ID for.

Tapestry Of Sound – Wasp Of A Woman (Step Ball Chain)
Big cunty energy built for the big room.

Urbanatribù – Mondotondo (Dualismo Sound)
Perfectly crafter Italian dance music from Alessandria. Originally released in 1996, and remastered for Bandcamp, the Urbanatribù project was the brainchild project from Flavio Gemma and Massimiliano Bocchio.

ITX027 – MPU103 (Illian Tape)
Beautifully crafter ambient from the Zenker Brother’s run label.
